The .30-30 Winchester (Originally .30 Winchester Center Fire, or .30 WCF), or merely .30-30, is a smokeless powder cartridge released by Winchester in 1895. It was released during the second production year of the Winchester Model 1894, alongside the .25-35 Winchester. It was based on the older .38-55 Winchester black powder round, one of the cartridges the 1894 was initially chambered in.

Design
The .30-30 was created by necking the .38-55 case down to .30 caliber. Because of the change to the more powerful smokeless powder, a 30 grain charge was found sufficient to meet or exceed what Winchester planned for.
