The Star Model BKM, a compact aluminum-framed 1911-style handgun made by Star Bonifacio Echeverria from 1972 to 1997.

The Star Model BKM was a semi-automatic 1911-style pistol chambered in 9mm Parabellum and produced by Spanish gun manufacturer Star Bonifacio Echeverria from 1972-1997 (the year of their closing).

Design & Development

This handgun is more or less identical to the Star Model BM (of which it is a derivative). However, it instead uses an aluminum frame, which was a response to the growing demand in the U.S. for smaller, lighter firearms that could be more easily concealed, and that were chambered in the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge. As a result, the Star BKM weighed only 26 ounces, which was quite innovative for its time.

The breech locking utilizes John Browning's / Colt's "swinging link" traditionally found in the 1911, but uses only one locking lug on the top of the barrel in order to engage the slide.
